A Heart Position That Will Bring Honor and Favor
As the Lord gives us favor and honor, we will find ourselves seated at the table of kings, queens, and many noble men and women of the Kingdom of God. Before we are seated at that table, we must first learn to manage our appetites, otherwise, we can easily be overcome by the glory and splendor they carry or partake in and crave it for ourselves outside of the appointed time. The heart posture of self-control will lead you onto the path of humility and the fear of the Lord.
People who have not cultivated self-control and don't manage their appetites are always trying to push themselves into places of authority without walking through the processes that are necessary to carry it. As children of God, we must understand that we can't shortcut the process of "becoming" like Christ. We must willingly surrender to the process of being stretched and transfigured into His image in order to walk in the same authority He did. The enemy would like nothing more than for us to be so out of control that we decide out of a place of pride, to launch ourselves into a counterfeit place of authority, instead of waiting for the Lord to launch us at the appointed time. If we take it upon ourselves to "make it happen", the weight of what we are craving without the character and capacity to walk in it, will crush us.
This is partly why self-control is so important. When we begin to mature as a sons and daughters of God, we become aware of who God is for us and focused on becoming as He is. We learn to trust the Lord's timing and realize that we don't want to crave for anything but Him and what He has for us; not favor, wealth, position, authority; nothing outside of the Lord's appointed time or plans. If we try and "make it happen", when we force it, we are then required to work and maintain the place that we chose to seat ourselves. Instead, if we allow the Lord to prepare the table before us, it will be abundantly beyond what we can hope, ask, or currently think.
Favor comes by first being captivated by Jesus, not by men or the things of this world. Let the Lord promote you, for in that place there is no sorrow added. As your heart has learned to seek first Him and his Kingdom, the appointed time will come and the Lord will promote you and bring you into the realms of authority you are called to walk in. As you enter into each realm of authority He places you in, it will be with joy, gladness, and thanksgiving knowing that the Lord has set you there and that it is His purposes and His Kingdom that will be established through you in that place.
Proverbs 23:1-3 NKJV
“When you sit down to eat with a ruler, Consider carefully what is before you; And put a knife to your throat If you are a man given to appetite. Do not desire his delicacies, For they are deceptive food.”
Proverbs 15:33 NIV
“Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honor.”
