Trust In The Timing Of The Lord

Sometimes an open door or an opportunity that presents itself is a test to see if we will try to make something happen in our own timing and strength, versus recognizing the need to wait for God’s timing and appointment.

Two separate times David could have killed King Saul, to try to take the crown and set himself as king over Israel (1 Samuel 23-24). It APPEARED to all those around David that God opened the door for him to kill Saul, but in doing so, David would have sinned against the Lord, shedding blood to take what seemed to be rightfully his. David’s men were eager for him to do it, Samuel the prophet had already anointed him (talk about a prophetic word) and the people loved him. Yet, David waited for God’s hand to move him. David’s posture remained one of honor of the leadership God had put in place, even when it didn’t make sense to others.

David exercised self-control and waited, trusting the Lord to perform His word. We know it wasn’t an easy thing for David to wait because the Bible says he went back to Samuel in Ramah, to have the prophet remind him of what God had said, and yet he persevered. It would be around 17 years from the time David would be anointed as king by the prophet Samuel to the day He would become king over all of Israel, but he waited for God to make the way; there was no contesting His Kingship or authority.

As sons and daughters of God we must be vigilant in not allowing the desires of the flesh to trick us into aspiring for promotion outside of the perfect timing of God. I’m not saying that we should squelch the desire to become who we are called to be, I’m talking about controlling the driving desire to push into a place of position that we think we should have that another is occupying, or that looks pleasing or good to us.

If people are pressuring you, flattering you, or opportunities present themselves to allow you to move into a new space of authority, but it requires you to usurp or dishonor the authority that you are subject to, DON’T take it or fall for this trap. What starts out dishonorably will end dishonorably.

Instead, TRUST THE TIMING OF THE LORD! Stay true to the process of “becoming“ that God has you walking in. Don’t buck the time frame of preparation that has been given by God to grow your character and capacity to handle authority correctly. Your self-control and persistent perseverance will allow God to move you into new realms of authority according to His timing.

When “whom God has anointed” becomes “whom God has appointed,” in that place, there is no contesting it. God’s timing is perfect and so is His Word!
